Taxi drivers across Greece have called a 48-hour strike. The main demands of POEATA.

Taxi drivers across Greece are going on a 48-hour strike today (December 2) and tomorrow (December 3), as announced a few days ago by the Panhellenic Taxi Federation (POEATA).

The POEATA announcement lists the drivers’ demands:

The taxi industry has reached its limits!

All avenues for dialogue with the relevant ministries, especially the Ministry of Transport, have been exhausted without any solutions to the problems affecting the daily lives and livelihoods of our colleagues.

Our long-standing and fundamental demands concerning issues of sustainability and daily life for our members have remained unresolved for quite some time, while several bills have been passed and we have received only an extension of time and patience in response.

On Monday, November 24, the Federation’s Board of Directors met and decided UNANIMOUSLY:

  • A 48-hour nationwide warning strike will be held on Tuesday, December 2, and Wednesday, December 3, with mobilizations throughout the country.
  • The procedures for convening a Sectoral Council for decisions and continued mobilizations will begin.

The demands of the Administrative Council are as follows:

  • Extension of the electrification obligation until 2035.
  • Addressing unfair competition caused by multinational applications.
  • Immediate decisions to combat project theft in the sector by private hire vehicles. Increase in time charges and minimum rent throughout the country.
  • Renegotiation of the entry of loaded taxis into special lanes.
  • Implementation of all pending issues of the tax bill.
  • Price adjustment.
  • Fair tax treatment.

At the same time, we are awaiting a meeting with the Ministry, which will be attended by the Presidium together with the leaders of the political groups.

If no answers are forthcoming, the sector will unanimously and forcefully take its decisions.
