The 75-year-old woman’s daughter-in-law has confessed. The motive for the robbery appears to have been the elderly victim’s savings. The perpetrator had also been a Golden Dawn parliamentary candidate.

Τhe daughter-in-law of the 75-year-old woman, who was brutally murdered inside her home on Ikarou Street 31 in Salamina on October 31, has confessed and been arrested.

In recent weeks, authorities had deliberately allowed information to circulate in the media suggesting they were investigating possible marginal individuals in the area. However, the investigation revealed financial motives for the murder within the victim’s own family.

The victim’s son and his wife, who is reported to have been a Golden Dawn parliamentary candidate in Thessaloniki in 2022, received €10,000 from the elderly woman’s savings after the couple signed a civil partnership agreement. They were supposed to keep the money safe. At some point, however, the money disappeared. Authorities believe the 46-year-old gambled it away due to her addiction.

The son decided to return the money to his mother. He had managed to gather €8,000, which he returned, with €2,000 still outstanding. Recently he collected another €1,100, which also disappeared—likely gambled away again by the 46-year-old. To cover this loss and prevent her partner from finding out, she decided to stage a robbery targeting her mother-in-law in order to replace the missing money.

On October 31, she went to the elderly woman’s home. Having previously gained access to the house, she had repositioned the security cameras so they pointed elsewhere. She parked her car in a nearby alley, approached the house from the hillside, broke a window, and entered with her face covered.

Inside, she threatened the elderly woman, demanding money. The victim insisted she had none. Fearing that the elderly woman had recognized her despite the hood, the assailant struck her in the face and head with a bottle and then stabbed her repeatedly—with rage—on the head, neck, and ribs. The victim, who also had mobility issues and was unable to defend herself, died from the attack.

During questioning, the perpetrator admitted that after committing the crime she returned to her car and drove home. She disposed of her blood-stained clothes, gloves, and hood in a garbage bag and threw it away.

Police found blood traces in her car that did not belong to her. They are awaiting forensic confirmation to match the sample to the victim.
