Alexandros Grigoropoulos: Citizens leave flowers at his memorial in Exarchia

Since the morning, students, pupils, and citizens have been leaving flowers at the spot where Alexandros Grigoropoulos was fatally shot in Exarchia.

Today marks seventeen years since the murder of Alexandros Grigoropoulos in Exarchia, on December 6, 2008.
As every year, the commemorative events are focused on the location where Alexandros Grigoropoulos was killed by the bullet of Epaminondas Korkoneas, at the age of 15, at the intersection of Javella and Mesolongiou streets.
There, from early in the morning, students, pupils, residents, and citizens have been leaving flowers at the memorial that has been created at the spot, which reads:
“Here, on December 6, 2008, the innocent fifteen-year-old Alexandros Grigoropoulos’ childhood smile was extinguished by the bullets of unrepentant murderers” and “In memory of Alexandros. Death did not kill you. The homes of the dead are built with oblivion. The homes of the living are made of memory. Your memory will stay alive, a shining star that will shine forever. It will light the way for those who continue the fight. In our pockets, we carry your smile, because we never said goodbye, but ‘until we meet again’.”
Two significant marches are planned for today, as students and pupils gather at the Propylaea at 12:00, starting a march towards Exarchia. At 18:00, a second march will begin from the Propylaea. At 21:00, the usual gathering will take place at the location of the murder on Mesolongiou and Javella streets.
