Athens Half Marathon 2026 – Which roads will be closed

On Sunday, March 8, 2026, from 08:00 to 10:00, the Athens Half Marathon 2026 will be held on the route:

Start: Vassilissis Amalias Avenue at the height of the Monument to the Unknown Soldier (MUS)

Route: Panepistimiou – Aiolou – Stadiou – Filopappou – Vassilissis Amalias Avenue – Ath. Diakou (uphill lane) – Ardittou (uphill lane) – Vassilissis Konstantinou (uphill lane) – Vassilissis Sofias – Mesogeion Avenue – Michalakopoulou – Mesogeion Avenue – Turnaround at Sofias Sleiman – Mesogeion Avenue – Feidippidou – Vassilissis Sofias – Akademias – Chalkokondili – Patision (uphill lane) – Turnaround at Kefallinias – Patision – Aiolou – Stadiou – Filopappou – Vassilissis Amalias Avenue – Ath. Diakou (uphill lane) – Ardittou (uphill lane) – Vassilissis Konstantinou (downhill lane) – Rizari – Vassilissis Sofias – Akademias – Hippocrates – Panepistimiou

Finish: Vassilissis Amalias Avenue at the height of the Monument to the Unknown Soldier.

12:15 to 14:10, 5 km Race:
Start: Syntagma Square (at the height of Ermou Street, heading towards Filopappou Street).

Route: Filopappou – Vassilissis Amalias Avenue – Ath. Diakou (downhill lane) – Ardittou (uphill lane) – Vassilissis Konstantinou (downhill lane) – Rizari – Vassilissis Sofias (downhill lane) – Akademias – Hippocrates – Panepistimiou

Finish: Vassilissis Amalias Avenue at the height of the Monument to the Unknown Soldier.

Due to the above-mentioned races, the following TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATIONS will be in place:

Temporary and gradual interruption of traffic (including bicycles and E.P.I.O.) and prohibition of stopping and parking of vehicles on Sunday, March 8, 2026, on the following avenues, streets, and squares within the Municipality of Athens, as follows:

Vassilissis Amalias Avenue in both directions, and its perpendicular streets until the first parallel road in the section between Vassilissis Olgas and Syggrou Avenue, from 07:00 to 14:00.

In the section between Vassilissis Olgas and Panepistimiou Street, the interruption of traffic will be from 05:00 to 15:00, while in the section between Souris Street and Vassilissis Sofias, traffic will gradually stop in the right lane from 14:00 on Saturday, March 7, 2026, to 14:00 on Sunday, March 8, 2026.

Panepistimiou Street along its entire length, and its perpendicular streets until the first parallel road, from 07:00 to 14:00.

Stadiou Street, along its entire length and perpendicular streets until the first parallel road, from 07:00 to 14:00.

In the section from Ameriki Street to Syntagma Square, traffic will gradually stop from 06:00 to 14:00.

Akademias Street, along its entire length, and its perpendicular streets until the first parallel road, from 07:00 to 14:00.

Solonos Street, along its entire length and its perpendicular streets until the first parallel road, from 07:00 to 14:00.

Omonia Square, from 07:00 to 14:00.

Filopappou, along its entire length and its perpendicular streets until the first parallel road from 07:00 to 14:00.

Patision – 28th October, in the section between Ag. Meletiou Street and Omonia Square, in both directions, and its perpendicular streets until the first parallel road, from 07:00 to 14:00.

Alexandras Avenue, in the section between Panormou Street and Kifisias Avenue, uphill direction, and its perpendicular streets until the first parallel road, from 07:00 to 14:00, and in the section between Moustoxidi and Patision Street, downhill direction, and its perpendicular streets until the first parallel road, from 07:00 to 14:00.

Mesogeion Avenue, in the section from Kifisias Avenue to the Athens Tower, in both directions, and its perpendicular streets until the first parallel road, from 07:00 to 14:00.

Feidippidou, in the section between Michalakopoulou and Kifisias Avenue, and its perpendicular streets until the first parallel road, from 07:00 to 14:00.

Thivon, in the section between Papadiamandopoulou and Levadeias, uphill direction towards Mesogeion Avenue, from 07:00 to 14:00.

Michalakopoulou, in the section between Ilias Street and Mesogeion Avenue, uphill direction towards Mesogeion Avenue, from 07:00 to 14:00.

INTERSECTION CROSSINGS:

Prohibition of vertical passage of vehicles from the Half Marathon route during the time when traffic is prohibited, except for the following controlled junctions:

Patision – 28th October – Ag. Meletiou.

Vassilissis Sofias – Irodo Attikou (only for Fire Service vehicles).

Vassilissis Sofias – Papadiamandopoulou.

Vassilissis Sofias – Kokkali.

Vassilissis Sofias – Rigillis (only for Fire Service and E.K.A.B. vehicles).

Vassilissis Konstantinou – Vassilissis Georgiou.

Vassilissis Konstantinou – Irodo Attikou.

ALTERNATIVE ROUTES:
Due to the above traffic regulations, drivers can follow these alternative routes for better service:

From the Center of Athens towards Zografou – Pangrati – Kaisariani – Vyronas:
Via Alexandras Avenue (direction to Kifisias Avenue) – left onto Panormou (towards Kifisias Avenue) – left onto Kifisias Avenue (towards Kifisia) – right onto Kallirrois Avenue – continue onto P. Kanellopoulou – continue either left on Kokkino Poulo or straight towards Karea – Alimos Avenue.

From Zografou – Pangrati – Kaisariani – Vyronas towards the Center of Athens:
Via Olof Palme – continue Kokkino Poulo – left onto Kallirrois Avenue (towards Mesogeion) – left onto Kifisias Avenue (towards Central Athens) – right onto Panormou (towards Alexandras) – Alexandras Avenue (towards Patision).

From Central Athens towards the South Suburbs:
Via Piraeus – Chamos Sterna – Syggrou Avenue – Poseidonos Avenue or
Via Piraeus – Chamos Sterna – Kallirrois – Vouliagmenis Avenue.

From Central Athens towards the Western Suburbs:
Via Evelpidon – Prigkiponnison – K. Tsaldari – continue through Kypseli area towards Patision (uphill lane towards Acharnes) towards N.E.O. Athens-Lamia, etc.
