The weather this Christmas is expected to be unstable, according to the latest meteorologists’ forecasts.
Weather phenomena from December 24th to 26th
From December 24th to 26th, strong weather phenomena are expected across most areas of the country due to a low-pressure system approaching from the central Mediterranean, which will worsen the weather, according to the forecast by Klearhos Marousakis.
Specifically, he notes that the peak of this deterioration will occur on Wednesday and Thursday, i.e., Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, when many areas will experience storms, a noticeable drop in temperature, and snowfall.
As he specifically mentions:
“A low-pressure system from the central Mediterranean will worsen the weather in our country from December 24th to 26th, with the peak of this deterioration affecting mainly Wednesday and Thursday, i.e., Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
More specifically, this low-pressure system, which will develop in the central Mediterranean as shown in our first map, will send us two significant waves of rain – storms and heavy snowfall in the mountains.
First Wave
This is expected to start tomorrow evening and last until Wednesday afternoon, with the greatest intensity in the western areas, and less so towards the central and northern parts.
Second Wave
This is expected towards the evening of Wednesday and until Thursday afternoon, with the greatest intensity in the western, central, northern areas, and the islands of the eastern Aegean.
Specifically, for Christmas Day, although the day will start with intense weather conditions in most areas of the country, particularly in the western, central, and northern parts, the bad weather will gradually start to move towards the Aegean (from the Pindus mountain range and further east). By Friday morning, December 26th, weather conditions will start to normalize in most areas.
It is worth noting that during all of these periods, strong and locally very strong winds will blow over our seas, sometimes from the south and sometimes from the north. However, there will not be a generalized ban on departures from ports at least.”
