The 46-year-old perpetrator, who has long suffered from chronic and serious psychological problems, did not live with his 80-year-old father, especially in recent years.
He was largely homeless and stayed wherever he could find shelter; nevertheless, he frequently visited his father at his home on Gytheiou Street, in Ano Glyfada.
On the morning when the 80-year-old left his first-floor apartment to go to church, as he was accustomed to doing on Sundays, the son lay in wait for him in the garden. He attacked him and stabbed him multiple times with a knife he was holding, and then placed him in the trunk of their car.
Neighbors heard the commotion, the cries of the unfortunate elderly man, and his futile pleas to his son, and called the emergency police line, reporting that it was a case of domestic violence.
Police officers quickly arrived at the scene, where they located and arrested the perpetrator and found the victim dead, bearing multiple stab wounds, inside the vehicle’s luggage compartment. The knife used by the son was also found at the scene.
As it emerged, the son had killed his 59-year-old mother with more than 40 stab wounds in the bathroom of their former home in Glyfada on March 27, 2014. For that act, he was sentenced to 16 years in prison and was released in 2018.
Specifically, according to information, he was released on April 24, 2018, under the Paraskevopoulos Law, and on the same day the prosecutor ordered his confinement at the Dromokaiteio Psychiatric Hospital. From there, at an unknown time but within a short period, he was discharged and placed under restrictive conditions requiring him to report to the local police station, which he complied with until just a few days before the commission of the new murder of his last remaining parent.
Regarding the case, the official statement issued by the Hellenic Police reads as follows:
“With regard to an incident of fatal injury to an individual during the morning hours today, Sunday, January 25, 2026, in the Glyfada area, by a family member who was arrested, the Hellenic Police Headquarters announces the following:
At approximately 08:10, a person called the Emergency Action call center reporting an incident of domestic violence that resulted in the fatal injury of the victim.
Police officers immediately went to the scene, where they found a fatally injured individual inside the trunk of a vehicle. The perpetrator (the victim’s son), who, according to his relatives, suffers from psychological problems, was also located at the scene, along with the sharp object he used, which was seized.
As established, on March 28, 2014, the perpetrator had gone to a police station and confessed to the fatal injury of his mother, likewise caused by a sharp object, resulting in his arrest.
Following the formation of the relevant case file, he was brought before the competent prosecutor and investigating judge and was remanded in custody. In 2018, he was released under restrictive conditions, including the obligation to report to a local police station twice a month.
The perpetrator had been complying normally with the restrictive conditions imposed on him (he had reported to the police station during the current month) and had not been involved in any other offense since then. The preliminary investigation into the incident is being conducted by the Sub-Directorate for the Prevention and Investigation of Crimes of Southeastern Attica.”
