Farmers representing the majority arrived at the Maximos Mansion to meet with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and members of the government, seeking—as they say—solutions to what they describe as their fair demands, which they consider vital for their survival.
Also present is the leader of the Malgara roadblock, Kostas Anestidis, whose participation had previously been vetoed by the government.
“The farmers know that the framework of interventions the government can make has, in practice, already been announced. This framework is clearly defined by the fiscal margins—which we have exhausted—by social justice, and by European rules,” Kyriakos Mitsotakis underlined in his Sunday post, effectively setting out the parameters ahead of today’s expected discussion.
The farmers arrived at the Maximos Mansion with a delegation of 25 people and six observers. Their representatives are expected to present a list of 14 demands, for which they argue that there is sufficient fiscal space to provide solutions.
According to the farmers, key issues include the cost of production, tackling the outbreak of sheep and goat pox, and compensating for lost income.
It is noted that after the meeting with the prime minister, the farmers are expected to return to the roadblocks, where they will hold general assemblies. At the Nikaia roadblock, a meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday afternoon at 6 p.m. to determine their next steps.
