Two more children had to be hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in recent days due to extremely severe flu symptoms.

The admission of these two children to the ICU has raised concerns about the rise in seasonal viral infections.

Specifically, during the emergency of Friday, January 30, at the “Aglaia Kyriakou” Hospital, two young children required urgent medical attention due to severe flu symptoms.

The first patient is a 3-month-old boy who showed severe symptoms. Fortunately, he did not require intubation and, according to the latest information, he is out of danger and is expected to be discharged from the ICU soon.

The second child is a 4-year-old girl, who also suffered from severe flu symptoms. Her condition has improved, and she has now been discharged from the ICU. She is still hospitalized in a regular ward but is in stable condition.

The growing concern about public health is evident, as seasonal infections continue to particularly affect vulnerable groups such as young children.

The President of the Panhellenic Federation of Public Hospital Workers (POEDIN), Michalis Giannakos, emphasized the need for special attention, stressing that seasonal infections are far from over. “The flu still poses a threat, and we must stay vigilant,” he stated.

Mr. Giannakos reiterated his call for vaccination, underscoring the importance of vaccination as a preventive measure to avoid the spread of the flu and protect vulnerable individuals, particularly children and the elderly.

This situation serves as a reminder of the need for constant vigilance and adherence to health protocols, as the consequences of the flu, as seen in these two recent cases, can be severe, even for the youngest children
