The National Intelligence Service (EYP), the Counter-Terrorism Unit and numerous divisions of the Hellenic Police (EL.AS.) are on high alert and have already stepped up security measures at all Israeli and American interest targets across the country, while measures are also being taken in squares and metro stations with heavy and frequent public traffic.

The country’s internal security authorities are now on alert from the borders to major cities, ports, airports, public squares and central metro stations, with increased police presence aimed at preventing even potential lone individuals who might attempt to carry out an extremist act. Since the military operation in Iran began, which quickly triggered a crisis across the Middle East, Greece’s intelligence services have been in constant communication with their allied counterparts to gather data and information, while the Counter-Terrorism Unit has intensified surveillance of persons of interest and “mapped” individuals who have been assessed for monitoring.
At the same time, security measures and police presence have been increased at all diplomatic targets and buildings of Israeli and American interests, at hotels in Athens, Crete, Rhodes, the Cyclades and the airports in those areas, in Alexandroupoli, at schools of Israeli and American interests, at synagogues, and instructions have of course been issued for even more thorough checks at the country’s land borders.
Security reflexes have been heightened even for the smallest and most symbolic act that someone might attempt, covering even the possibility of a lone individual who might seek to provoke through a desperate act. For this reason, policing has also been reinforced at metro stations with frequent traffic and the presence of tourists.
