Griva femicide: Duty officer of the Agioi Anargyroi Police Department released under conditions
EUROKINISSI

The police officer who was on duty as shift commander on the night of Kyriaki Griva’s femicide appeared before the examining magistrate.

The duty officer of the Agioi Anargyroi Police Department was released with restrictive conditions after giving her deposition regarding the day Kyriaki Griva was murdered by her former partner, shortly after unsuccessfully seeking police protection.

The police officer testified before an examining magistrate, charged with felony-level fatal exposure. With the agreement of the prosecutor, she was released under the conditions of appearing twice a month at her local police station and being banned from leaving the country.

What the duty officer of the Agioi Anargyroi Police Department claimed

According to information, the defendant argued that she followed proper procedure on April 1, 2024, when Kyriaki Griva entered the station fearing for her life.

Among other points, she reportedly told the magistrate that she suggested Griva file a complaint against her ex-partner so that criminal proceedings could be initiated, but the 28-year-old woman declined to do so.

It is noted that, in relation to the police responsibilities surrounding the murder of Kyriaki Griva, charges have also been brought against the supervising officer, the guard who witnessed the crime without intervening, and the dispatcher from the Direct Action (Immediate Response) service who told the victim: “Patrol cars are not taxis, madam.”

Timeline of the femicide

Griva had gone to the police station with a friend to report her former partner. There, after asking for protection, the duty officer allegedly told her that no patrol car was available.

The 28-year-old left the station, saw her ex-partner waiting for her, and called the police emergency number (100) just meters from the station. She was murdered while speaking with the operator.

An audio recording captured the victim’s friend pleading for help, as well as the way police handled the unfolding attack.

Friend of the victim (28): He killed her. Ambulance, quick. Guys!

Operator – Direct Action: Do you hear me?

Friend: Guys!

Station guard: He stabbed the girl!

Operator: Do you hear me?

Duty officer: The bastard stabbed her!

Witness (unidentified voice): He stabbed himself too, he’s injured here.

Operator: Do you hear me?

Guard: Where was he?

Friend: I don’t know.

Operator: Do you hear me?

Guard: He jumped out from behind, from what I saw.

Operator: Do you hear me?

Duty officer: The girl came to report that he was stalking her, and as soon as she walked out he stabbed her.

Guard: No one knows how.

Operator: Do you hear me?

Duty officer: We’ve alerted an ambulance.

Supervisor: The woman came and asked for a patrol car.

Duty officer: Let’s move, go a bit further kids, let’s go, let’s go…

Guard: Back up, move away.

Duty officer: Guys, the girl—what’s happening with the ambulance?

Guard: Does she have a pulse?

DIAS officer: Four of us are at the scene.

Guard: Where is the knife?

Radio voice: Give us the status of the injured.

DIAS officer: Everyone else, secure the scene and keep people away. Anything outside the perimeter.

Friend: Is there a pharmacy around here?

Guard: Don’t touch anything, stay clear.

Duty officer: Don’t lose the knife.

Guard: No, no. We won’t touch the knife.

DIAS officer: Gloves.

Guard: Don’t disturb anything until they arrive. They may need photos or anything else.

Dispatcher: Agioi Anargyroi… Her friend tried to protect her from her ex and he got stabbed too.

Friend: Did we find anything guys?

Police officer: Did you find anything? Is there a pharmacy?

Police officer: Does anyone have gauze? Any first-aid kit?

DIAS officer: I have the pharmacist here.

Pharmacist: Check if she has a pulse. The ambulance is coming.

Police officer: Guys, bring me gauze.

Police officer: Is there a first-aid kit anywhere?

Pharmacist: I have one, tell me what you need. The girl has no pulse.

Duty officer: She has no pulse?

Pharmacist: Yes.

Duty officer: She’s dead?

Pharmacist: She’s lost an enormous amount of blood, can’t you see?

DIAS officer: The girl has no pulse, central.
