Heating allowance: Amounts and payment schedule
Διαβάζεται σε 4'
As in previous years, there will be no across-the-board payment of the heating allowance amounts to beneficiaries. Payments will be made on the basis of asset and income criteria. In addition, the location of the primary residence is also taken into account.

On Tuesday, December 23, the advance payment of the heating allowance will be paid to approximately 1 million beneficiaries. In practice, 60% of the total amount will be credited to the accounts of existing beneficiaries, while new beneficiaries will receive 50%. In all cases, however, a minimum amount of €80 — the lowest possible allowance — will be paid across the board.
Payment Timeline
The remaining installments will be paid by May 29, 2026. The final amount is determined based on weather conditions for the period from October 1, 2025 to March 31, 2026 and is calculated after deducting the advance payment, taking into account that the total allowance may not exceed half of the invoiced purchases for the corresponding period.
Specifically, the heating allowance will be paid through banks in three consecutive installments:
- By December 23, 2025: The advance payment is made for purchases invoiced up to November 30, 2025, provided that the beneficiary has submitted all required details by December 5, 2025.
- By May 29, 2026: Payments are made for purchases of natural gas, heating oil and electricity invoiced up to April 15, 2026, as well as for purchases of firewood and pellets made between June 1, 2025 and April 15, 2026. Required details must be submitted by April 30, 2026.
- By July 31, 2026: An additional payment is made for natural gas and district heating, for consumption between October 1, 2025 and March 31, 2026.
Special attention should be paid to the correct entry of the IBAN by beneficiaries in the relevant field.
Beneficiaries
It is recalled that the heating allowance is granted to households that consume heating oil, natural gas, LPG, firewood, pellets, electricity, thermal energy through district heating or power, and applies to the period from October 1, 2025 to March 31, 2026. Each beneficiary may receive the allowance for only one type of fuel.
Income Criteria
Regarding eligibility criteria, the annual total household income — regardless of its source, actual or imputed — is a key reference point. It must not exceed:
- €16,000 for single individuals
- €24,000 for married couples, increased by €5,000 for each dependent child
For single-parent families, the income threshold is set at €29,000, increased by €5,000 for each child after the first.
For those engaged in business activity, total gross revenues from business activities of the applicant, spouse or partner under a civil partnership, and dependent children must not exceed €80,000.
As for total property value, eligible households should note that the value of owned real estate must not exceed:
- €200,000 for single individuals, widowed or separated taxpayers
- €260,000 for married couples, civil partners and single-parent families
This amount is increased by €40,000 for each dependent child.
Allowance Amounts
The total heating allowance cannot be less than €100 nor exceed €800. As in previous years, the allowance is not granted uniformly based solely on income or asset criteria. The location of the primary residence is also taken into account, based on a “coldness index”.
This index determines energy needs by region and provides proportional increases for colder areas, such as Nevrokopi or Nymfaio. In these regions, for example, the allowance is increased by an additional 25%, reaching up to €1,200.
