Holiday Hours: How Shops and Supermarkets Will Operate on Christmas Eve

The operating hours for commercial stores during the 2025 Christmas holiday period have been put into effect since Thursday, December 11th.

As highlighted by the Athens Chamber of Commerce, the schedule is indicative and optional.

Each business can adjust its hours based on its own needs and capabilities, within the framework of the operation defined by the state and the applicable legislation (Monday – Saturday: 06:00–21:00, Sunday: 11:00–20:00).

Holiday Hours in Thessaloniki:
The holiday hours for commercial stores in Thessaloniki have been in effect since December 13, with the Thessaloniki Chamber of Commerce recommending optional Sunday openings on December 14, 21, and 28 from 11:00 to 18:00. For January 2, 2026, it is recommended that stores remain closed.

According to the Thessaloniki Chamber of Commerce (E.S.T.), during the period of December 13–30, the commercial stores will operate from 10:00 to 21:00 on weekdays, and on Saturdays (December 13, 20, and 27) from 10:00 to 18:00.

On Christmas Eve (24/12) and New Year’s Eve (31/12), according to the E.S.T., the stores will operate from 10:00 to 18:00.

Stores will remain closed on Christmas Day, Friday, December 26, on New Year’s Day, and the second day of the new year.
