The 66-year-old accused of killing his mother, Eleni Papadopoulou, in Kolonaki three years ago, was remanded in custody.
For eight hours, the defendant was questioned about the circumstances surrounding the death of his mother, the widow of a former PASOK minister, at her home in Kolonaki, where she was found burned to death by the authorities. Following the interrogation, and with the joint decision of the prosecutor and the investigating judge, the accused was ordered into pre-trial detention.
According to information, during the lengthy examination he continued to deny the charges against him. He has been formally charged with intentional homicide in a calm mental state, as well as arson, as he is alleged to have killed his mother and then staged the scene to make it appear that the apartment fire was accidental, specifically claiming that the woman fell asleep with a lit cigarette
