Tragic end for the 22-year-old who ate an entire burger and collapsed. He was left without oxygen for over two minutes, resulting in irreparable damage.

A tragic incident occurred on Thursday morning (November 20), when a 22-year-old man, who had been in the ICU at “Gennimatas” Hospital for over a week, passed away after swallowing a whole burger.

It was reported that the young man suffered irreversible damage, which led to his tragic death.

The chronicle of the tragedy

The incident took place in Koropi, where the 22-year-old ate a whole burger without chewing it. As a result, the food obstructed his airway.

His friends reported that he panicked and then collapsed shortly afterward. Emergency medical responders who arrived at the scene attempted to resuscitate him, as witnesses stated that he had stopped breathing for more than two minutes.

One of his friends, who was present at the scene, described the incident, clarifying that it was not part of any challenge, as initially suggested.

According to him, the young man experienced something akin to a panic attack. He got up and moved a little further, as his friends thought he was going to spit the food out. However, that didn’t happen. Instead, he made an attempt to return and then ran off again.

When they realized something was seriously wrong, they saw him hitting his back against a column, possibly trying to clear his throat. His friends, who were trained in first aid (one being a lifeguard and the other a sailor), rushed to help. They explained that swallowing an entire burger was not unusual for them, and there was no challenge or intentional act involved. The young man had simply said, “Look at this” before the incident unfolded.
