Korydallos Prison: Investigation into the deaths of two inmates

The General Secretariat for Anti-Crime Policy issued a statement regarding the death of two inmates at Korydallos Prison, noting that an investigation is underway into the exact circumstances of the incidents.

According to the information provided, the two inmates had been participating in a therapeutic drug rehabilitation program, while the procedures provided by law for the investigation of the case have already been initiated by the competent authorities.

The statement of the General Secretariat for Anti-Crime Policy:

An investigation is underway into the circumstances of the death of two inmates at Korydallos Prison.

The two inmates had been participating since the beginning of March in a therapeutic rehabilitation program implemented at the facility in cooperation with the National Organization for the Prevention and Treatment of Addictions (EOPAE).

Following the incident, the competent medical staff was immediately informed and a team from the Organization went to the prison facility in order to assist in the investigation of the incidents. Within the framework of the checks carried out on participants in the program, no findings emerged that would indicate an issue related to the process of administering the therapeutic treatment.

It is noted that therapeutic programs are implemented under medical supervision and in accordance with the prescribed protocols.

The competent prosecutorial authority was informed of the incidents from the very first moment, while an autopsy–post mortem examination and toxicological tests were ordered in order to determine the exact causes of the deaths.

The preliminary investigation is being carried out by the competent Police Department.
