The toxicology tests of the 29-year-old driver, who caused the fatal accident in Loutsa in the early hours of Sunday, came back positive for drugs—specifically for cocaine use.
Following the positive result for alcohol consumption, the result for narcotics also came back positive, and the defendant will now face felony-level charges.
It is recalled that regarding alcohol consumption, Tuesday’s (02/12) results showed an alcohol level of 0.63 mg/l, with the legal blood limit being 0.50. This partly explains why the first informal breathalyzer test was able to be fooled, as breath measurements usually show roughly half the actual value, and if the exhalation is not performed properly, it may not produce an accurate result. For this reason, when an accident has occurred, blood samples are taken, as they provide definitive results.
The expert report determining the exact speed at which the 29-year-old was driving is now awaited. Video footage already indicates that his speed was excessive for that location.
It is worth noting that the 29-year-old had caused another serious traffic accident five years ago, in April 2020, in Vravrona. At that time, the car he was driving veered off the road, resulting in the serious injury of his 21-year-old passenger.
The 29-year-old appears before the prosecutor today
Meanwhile, the 29-year-old is expected today, Wednesday (3/12), to be brought before the prosecuting and judicial authorities, facing grave charges both for the fatal injury of the 24-year-old and for the serious injury of his 21-year-old girlfriend, who remains hospitalized with head injuries.
The 29-year-old was driving at breakneck speed before the fatal crash in Loutsa
A key video emerged Monday night from Artemidos Avenue, taken just moments before the 29-year-old caused the deadly accident.
As shown in the footage, seconds before the crash, the 29-year-old was recorded performing an illegal overtaking maneuver on Artemidos Avenue, a two-way road, entering the opposite lane at breakneck speed and passing a moving vehicle.
The video is currently in the hands of the police authorities.
