ADEDY calls for a 24-hour nationwide public sector strike “against the budget of the New Democracy government.”

ADEDY will proceed with a 24-hour nationwide public sector strike on December 16, 2025, the day the 2026 budget is voted on in Parliament.

As decided at the 39th ADEDY Congress, the strike is “against the budget of the New Democracy government.” At the same time, they express their full solidarity with the agricultural mobilizations and the blockades set up by farmers across the country.

In parallel, the Panhellenic Federation of Employees in Local Government Organizations, in a statement, calls on “all employees in Local Government Organizations (O.T.A.) to participate in the 24-hour nationwide strike and the protest rally at Syntagma Square at 11:00 AM.”

The federation emphasizes that the policy of borrowing is not a solution but a temporary deferral of problems, with citizens paying increased municipal taxes without a corresponding improvement in services. Moreover, essential social functions are gradually handed over to contractors and private companies, which burdens both workers and citizens.

The workers call for a protest rally, demanding:

  • Pay raises and dignified wages
  • Mass recruitment of permanent staff
  • Adequate funding for Municipalities
  • Preservation of social services as a public good
  • Abolition of Vouridis’ provision
  • Permanent employment of contract workers
  • Measures against inflation and economic exhaustion

Regarding Public Transport, it has not yet been officially announced if employees will participate in the strike and how, but this will be clarified in the coming hours.
