New details have emerged regarding the brutal attack on a 59-year-old driver who died on Monday afternoon (17/11) in Neos Kosmos.

New information has come to light regarding the beating and subsequent death of the 59-year-old driver in Neos Kosmos.

Police from the Athens Security Sub-Directorate have ultimately proceeded with one arrest: a 29-year-old man who confessed that he argued with the victim over a road-related misunderstanding. According to reports, video footage has been found showing the point where the confrontation began and the subsequent chase of the victim.

According to MEGA, the perpetrator claimed that the victim cut him off. The 29-year-old said he approached the driver to confront him, and the 59-year-old allegedly sprayed him with pepper spray before leaving the scene. The spray was reportedly found inside the victim’s vehicle.

He then followed the victim on his motorcycle and beat him so severely that the 59-year-old died shortly afterward.

The perpetrator claimed he acted alone, which means the three other Greek men who were brought in for questioning will likely be released. One of them may still face charges because the motorcycle used in the attack belonged to him and had been lent to the 29-year-old. As for the father of the man who attempted to hide the motorcycle, the prosecutor will decide whether he will be charged with harboring an offender.

The attacker had previous police records for disobedience and causing bodily harm, while one of the other individuals involved had a history of robberies.

The victim had lost consciousness on Soulie Street after the assault and collapsed onto a parked vehicle. He had visible bruises and injuries on his face and head. He was taken to Evangelismos Hospital, where he died from cardiac arrest.

According to the autopsy findings, the medical examiner identified facial and neck injuries consistent with the beating, pulmonary edema, and heart hypertrophy, for which tissue samples have been taken.

“He kept hitting him until he couldn’t breathe”

Eyewitnesses to the beating also describe the extreme violence of the 29-year-old confessed assailant.

“I only heard one bang, and right after that the other guy came on his motorcycle and started pounding him with punches. He left him there, finished… The man never got back up. Finished, he couldn’t breathe anymore. His arm was moving like a jackhammer, we’re talking about a beating, not a joke… A lot of beating,” one eyewitness told OPEN.

“The vehicle made a U-turn, they blocked him, the individuals got off the motorcycles, opened his door, punched him repeatedly in the head and then left,” another eyewitness said.
