New emergency bulletin for bad weather – Orange alert from the Hellenic National Meteorological Service

The weather has worsened in recent hours in much of the country, with intense phenomena expected throughout Thursday (February 5, 2026).

The Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS) has updated its emergency bulletin, warning of severe weather phenomena. Specifically:

Strong rains and thunderstorms are expected in the following areas:

• In the Ionian Islands, Lefkada, Ithaca, Kefalonia, Zakynthos, and western Central Greece until early afternoon.
• In western and southern Peloponnese until evening.
• In Eastern Macedonia and Thrace until night.
• In the northern and eastern Aegean islands until the early morning hours of Friday (06-02-2026).
• In the Dodecanese from early afternoon until Friday morning (06-02-2026).

Very strong southerly winds of 8 to locally 9 Beaufort will blow in the Eastern Aegean until afternoon. Some problems have already arisen, mainly in Corfu, with ferry services operating with interruptions.

Macedonia, Thrace

Weather: Increased cloudiness with rain and sporadic thunderstorms. The phenomena in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace will be locally intense from the morning until night. Gradual improvement is expected in Western and Central Macedonia from the afternoon.
Snowfall: Light snowfall in the mountainous regions of Macedonia.
Winds: Southeasterly 4 to 6 Beaufort, locally 7 Beaufort at sea. From the afternoon, winds will turn to westerly-northwesterly and weaken.
Temperature: From 7°C to 14°C. In Western Macedonia, 3 to 4 degrees lower.

Ionian Islands, Epirus, Western Central Greece, Western Peloponnese

Weather: Increased cloudiness with rain and sporadic thunderstorms. Phenomena will be locally intense. Gradual weakening of the phenomena from noon in the northern parts.
Snowfall: Light snowfall in the inland mountainous areas.
Winds: South-southwest 5 to 6 Beaufort, locally 7 Beaufort in the southern Ionian. Winds will gradually turn to westerly-northwesterly from the afternoon and weaken.
Temperature: From 10°C to 16°C. In the interior of Epirus, 2 to 3 degrees lower.

Thessaly, Eastern Central Greece, Evia, Eastern Peloponnese

Weather: Cloudiness with rain and sporadic thunderstorms. Improvement expected by night.
Winds: South-southwest 5 to 7 Beaufort, turning westerly-northwesterly 4 to 6 Beaufort by night.
Temperature: From 10°C to 17°C. 2 to 3 degrees lower in the north.

Cyclades, Crete

Weather: Cloudiness with rain and sporadic thunderstorms.
Winds: Southerly 7 to 8 Beaufort, turning southwesterly 6 to 7 Beaufort by the afternoon.
Temperature: From 14°C to 19°C.

Eastern Aegean Islands, Dodecanese

Weather: Cloudiness with rain and gradually thunderstorms. Phenomena will be locally intense from noon in the Eastern Aegean Islands and from the afternoon in the Dodecanese.
Winds: South-southeast 7 to 8 Beaufort, locally 9 Beaufort from the morning until afternoon. Winds will turn to southwesterly 6 to 7 Beaufort by night in the north.
Temperature: From 14°C to 19°C. The maximum temperature will be 2 to 3 degrees lower in the north.

Attica

Weather: Cloudiness with rain and possible isolated thunderstorms. Improvement expected late in the afternoon.
Winds: South-southwest 5 to 7 Beaufort, turning westerly-northwesterly 4 to 6 Beaufort by night.
Temperature: From 10°C to 17°C.

Thessaloniki

Weather: Increased cloudiness with rain and sporadic thunderstorms, especially in the morning. Improvement expected late in the afternoon.
Winds: South-southeast 5 to 6 Beaufort, gradually weakening.
Temperature: From 8°C to 14°C.

Forecast for Friday, 06-02-2026

In the islands of the Eastern Aegean and the Dodecanese, there will be temporarily increased cloudiness with rain and sporadic thunderstorms. The phenomena, which will be locally intense until the early morning hours, will quickly weaken.
In the western parts, there will be cloudiness with local rain, which will intensify by noon, with sporadic thunderstorms.
In other regions, there will be some clouds, which will temporarily increase with light local rain.
Light snowfall will occur in the northwestern inland mountainous areas.
African dust is expected to be transported, especially in the west, central, and southern parts.
Winds: Southwesterly 3 to 5 Beaufort, locally 6 Beaufort in the seas.
Temperature: There will be a slight increase in maximum temperatures, reaching 14 to 16°C in the northern mainland, 17 to 19°C in the rest of the country, and locally 20°C in the Dodecanese and Crete.

Forecast for Saturday, 07-02-2026

In the western parts and temporarily in the Dodecanese, there will be temporarily increased cloudiness with some local rain. By evening, in the northwestern parts, rain will intensify and thunderstorms will occur.
In the rest of the country, the weather will be generally clear, with some temporary increased cloudiness, especially in the central and northern parts, where local rain will occur.
Visibility will be locally reduced in the western and northern inland areas in the morning.
African dust will be transported, mainly in the south.
Winds: Southwesterly 3 to 5 Beaufort, locally 6 Beaufort in the southern seas.
Temperature: A slight further rise, remaining high for this time of year.

Forecast for Sunday, 08-02-2026

In the west and eastern Aegean, there will be temporarily increased cloudiness with local rain, especially in the morning, along with isolated thunderstorms.
In the rest of the country, there will be some cloudiness, mostly in the central and northern parts, where local rain will occur.
Snowfall will occur temporarily in the northwestern mountains.
Winds: Westerly 4 to 6 Beaufort, locally 7 Beaufort in the western and southern seas, weakening gradually.
Temperature: A slight decrease in temperature is expected.
