Taxi drivers in Attica are launching a new 48-hour strike starting today, Tuesday (20 January), which will run until Wednesday (21 January), making it clear that they will not back down from what they describe as their “just struggle”.
Following the previous three-day strike staged by taxi drivers nationwide, a sector-wide informational event will be held next Tuesday, 20 January, at 10:00 a.m. at the Peristeri Exhibition Centre.
In a Facebook post, the Attica Taxi Drivers’ Union (SATA) announced that meetings were held with parliamentary groups of opposition parties (PASOK, SYRIZA, Greek Solution and the Communist Party of Greece – KKE), during which all the issues facing the taxi sector were discussed in detail.
According to the drivers’ announcement, representatives of the parliamentary groups expressed their support and committed to pushing for immediate solutions.
No Taxis in Thessaloniki on Wednesday
There will be no taxi services in Thessaloniki on Wednesday, 21 January, as the board of the Thessaloniki Taxi Drivers’ Association unanimously decided to call a 24-hour strike, from 5:00 a.m. on Wednesday until 5:00 a.m. on Thursday.
According to a post by the association on social media, the main demands include the transition to electric mobility, excessive charges at the airport’s P5 area, changes to the criminal record requirements, permanent access for taxis to bus lanes, the abolition of presumed taxation, and a crackdown on what they describe as the unlawful diversion of transport work.
At 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, a gathering of taxis will take place on Antoni Tritsi Street, at the PAOK basketball arena (“Palataki”).
A march will follow to the airport and subsequently to the Ministry of Macedonia and Thrace.
