Authorities have arrested the head guard at the Dodecanese prison after he was accused of assisting in the murder of a 43-year-old life-sentenced inmate.

The arrest followed a warrant issued by the investigating judge in Lamia for complicity in the murder.

According to reports, the head guard was implicated through testimonial evidence and video footage from a camera in a public area, which captured a Bulgarian inmate summoning the victim to the guard’s office under the false pretense that the head guard wanted to see him.

It is noteworthy that in the footage, the victim is not seen carrying or hiding anything.

Following these developments and the emergence of evidence that implicated the guard, the crime was classified as premeditated rather than a case of self-defense. As a result, the head guard will face charges. Regarding Alket Rizaj, there are conflicting reports and testimonies—some place him at the scene, while others do not. However, video footage shows him heading in that direction, though no footage exists from the guard’s office, which was out of view of the cameras.

The investigation by the homicide unit is ongoing to determine if other individuals were involved in the crime, and to ascertain the motives behind the murder and who may have wanted the life-sentenced inmate dead. It is worth mentioning that from the beginning, questions were raised about how the inmate obtained the pistol and how events unfolded so conveniently in an area without cameras, with the presence of those who were there.

The three individuals present at the incident have been under investigation from the outset, including the head guard, for whom authorities had already raised questions about his conduct at the prison.

Furthermore, the prison administration had requested his resignation for inadequate performance of his duties, which he submitted, but he remained in his position until a replacement was found.

On Friday, the 38-year-old Bulgarian inmate will testify

It is reminded that on Monday afternoon (16/2), the 38-year-old Bulgarian inmate was brought to the Lamia courts under strict security measures.

Through his lawyer, Athanasios Tartis, he requested and received a deadline to testify before the investigating judge in Lamia on Friday, February 20.

He faces the charge of premeditated murder in a calm mental state.

It is noted that on January 20, officers from the Lamia police had searched the cell of the Greek life-sentenced inmate who was found dead in Dodecanese prison with two bullets in his head. They found no weapon, only a mobile phone, which was seized, as well as one belonging to the accomplice involved in the Zakynthos case, who is being held at Malandrino Prison.
