Severe weather system “Adel” sweeps across Greece – Areas affected today

In detail, the EMY forecast for today, Wednesday (26/11), and the severe weather system ‘Adel’, which brings heavy rainfall and thunderstorms to several parts of the country.

The severe weather front “Adel” is in full progression, sweeping across the country since yesterday, Tuesday (25/11), with heavy rain and thunderstorms expected today mainly in the Ionian Sea, Epirus, Aetolia-Acarnania, and parts of the Peloponnese.
It is reminded that for the severe weather system “Adel”, the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY) has issued an Emergency Weather Deterioration Bulletin, while the General Secretariat for Civil Protection has placed four Regions under Red Code alert from today, Wednesday (26/11), until Friday (28/11).
These are the Regions of the Ionian Islands, Epirus, Western Greece, and the Peloponnese, as well as their municipalities.
It is likely that additional regions will be placed under Red Code preparedness today.

Meteo: Weather deterioration with high rainfall amounts
According to forecasting data from meteo.gr / National Observatory of Athens, weather deterioration is expected during Wednesday, 26/11, starting from the northwest. The main characteristics of this change will be locally heavy rain and thunderstorms and locally high rainfall amounts.
Significant rainfall is also expected from Friday, 28/11, for which updated announcements will follow.
More specifically:
On Wednesday 26/11, heavy rain and thunderstorms will initially occur from the early morning in Corfu, Paxoi, and areas of Epirus. Gradually, the phenomena will expand across the western part of the country and into areas of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace.
Thunderstorms will be accompanied locally by hail, mainly in the west. Local rain or weaker thunderstorms are also expected in parts of the Peloponnese, Central Greece, the Cyclades, and the eastern Aegean islands.
The rainfall episode is classified as Category 3 (Significant).
On Thursday 27/11, locally heavy rain and thunderstorms will affect the entire mainland, the northern and eastern Aegean islands, and the Dodecanese. Weaker and more localized phenomena are expected in the Cyclades and Crete. High rainfall amounts are expected in the Ionian Islands, western mainland, Eastern Macedonia, and Thrace.
The rainfall episode is classified as Category 4 (Very Significant).

Locally heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected:
• In the Ionian Islands (Corfu, Diapontia Islands, and Paxoi) and Epirus.
• From the afternoon in Lefkada, Kefalonia, Ithaca, Zakynthos, Aetolia-Acarnania, western and southern Peloponnese.
• From the evening in Eastern Macedonia.
More specifically, according to EMY, locally heavy rain and thunderstorms will occur in the Ionian Islands (Corfu, Diapontia Islands, and Paxoi), Epirus, from the afternoon in Lefkada, Kefalonia, Ithaca, Zakynthos, Aetolia-Acarnania, western and southern Peloponnese, and from the evening in Eastern Macedonia.
In the rest of the country, clouds temporarily increasing with local rain and isolated thunderstorms over the mainland and the eastern Aegean.
Winds will blow from the south-southwest at 4–6 Beaufort, locally up to 7 Beaufort at sea, while temperatures will rise slightly, reaching 17–19°C in the north and 20–22°C in the south.
MACEDONIA, THRACE
Weather: Cloudy with local rain. From the evening, rainfall will intensify in Eastern Macedonia with locally heavy rain and thunderstorms.
Winds: South-southwesterly 4–5, in the east 6–7 Beaufort.
Temperature: 08–19°C, 4–5 degrees lower in Western Macedonia.
IONIAN ISLANDS, EPIRUS, WESTERN STEREA, WESTERN PELOPONNESE
Weather: Clouds with rain and scattered thunderstorms. Phenomena will be locally heavy in the Ionian Islands (Corfu, Diapontia Islands, Paxoi), Epirus, and from the afternoon in
Lefkada, Kefalonia, Ithaca, Zakynthos, Aetolia-Acarnania, western and southern Peloponnese.
Winds: Southerly 4–5, Ionian Sea 6–7 Beaufort.
Temperature: 11–20°C, 5–6 degrees lower in the inland of Epirus.
THESSALY, EASTERN STEREA, EUBOEA, EASTERN PELOPONNESE
Weather: Clouds temporarily increased with local rain and isolated thunderstorms. In southern Peloponnese, phenomena will intensify from the afternoon and become locally heavy.
Winds: Southwesterly 4–5, eastern areas 6, southern Euboea 7 Beaufort.
Temperature: 09–21°C.
CYCLADES, CRETE
Weather: Clouds temporarily increased with local rain.
Winds: South-southwesterly 5–6, locally 7 Beaufort from the afternoon.
Temperature: 14–22°C.
EASTERN AEGEAN ISLANDS – DODECANESE
Weather: Clouds temporarily increased with local rain and isolated thunderstorms in the eastern Aegean.
Winds: Southerly 5–6, locally up to 7 Beaufort.
Temperature: 17–22°C, 2–3 degrees lower in the north.
ATTICA
Weather: Few clouds increasing from midday with rain and later isolated thunderstorms.
Winds: South-southwesterly 4–5, locally up to 6 Beaufort.
Temperature: 13–22°C.
THESSALONIKI
Weather: Few clouds temporarily increasing with local rain from midday. From late evening, rainfall strengthens with scattered thunderstorms.
Winds: Southerly 3–4 Beaufort.
Temperature: 10–18°C.

In the eastern Aegean, Dodecanese, Cyclades, and Crete: partly cloudy, increasing at times with local rain, mainly in the eastern Aegean where rainfall will intensify at night.
Elsewhere: rain and scattered thunderstorms. Phenomena will be locally heavy in the Ionian Islands, Epirus, western and central Sterea, western and southern Peloponnese, central and eastern Macedonia, and Thrace.
Winds: Southerly 4–6, locally 7 Beaufort in the southern Ionian and Aegean, possibly 8 Beaufort in the Thracian Sea during morning hours.
Temperature: Slight decrease, mainly in the northwest. Highs: 17–19°C in northern mainland and Ionian, 19–21°C elsewhere on mainland, 22–23°C in the eastern/southern island regions.
FORECAST FOR FRIDAY 28-11-2025
Clouds with rain and scattered thunderstorms in most areas. Phenomena will be locally heavy in central and eastern Macedonia, Thrace, and the eastern Aegean, and early in the day in western Greece.
Temporary snowfall in mountainous areas of Epirus, Macedonia, Thessaly, and western Sterea.
Winds: Southerly, 3–5 in the west, 5–6 in the east and south, locally 7 Beaufort at sea.
Temperature: Slight drop in most regions.

Unsettled weather with clouds temporarily increased and local rain in most of the country. Scattered thunderstorms in the eastern Aegean and Dodecanese.
Winds: Westerly-northwesterly 3–5 Beaufort in the west. In the east, southerly 4–6 turning west-northwest at similar intensity from midday.
Temperature: Slight further drop, especially in central and northern areas.
