The Panhellenic Federation of Taxi Drivers has decided to put the brakes on starting today and for as long as the discussion of the bill lasts.

A nationwide strike has been declared by the Panhellenic Federation of Taxi Drivers (POEIATA), effective from today, Tuesday, March 17th, and will continue as long as the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport’s bill is being discussed in parliament.

In a statement, they specifically mentioned, “We begin nationwide strike actions from Tuesday, March 17th and for as long as the bill will be discussed in the committees of Parliament in the coming days.” The statement also notes, “After the first session of the committees, you will be informed about the progress of the developments and the continuation of our mobilizations and actions.”

Statement of the Panhellenic Federation of Taxi Drivers

“Following a unanimous decision by the Federation’s Board of Directors and in full alignment with the decision of the Sectoral Council, we begin nationwide strike actions starting Tuesday, March 17th, and for as long as the bill will be discussed in the committees of the Parliament in the coming days.

Specifically, on the day our representatives will present their objections in the committees, the sector will be fully present outside, just as it will be on the day of the vote on the bill.

We do not agree with:

  • The mandatory implementation of electric vehicles in Article 67 without any extension.
  • The provisions of Article 52 that favor passenger cars with drivers.
  • The additions of infractions for special permits in Article 41.
  • We call on all nationwide unions to participate and support all strike actions for the just demands of the sector.”
