A 82-year-old man was found dead in Thessaloniki, one day after his wife was acquitted of assaulting him. The first estimations on the cause of death.

The 82-year-old was found dead in his home in Koufalia, Thessaloniki, on Saturday (March 28), after raising concerns with authorities just a few days earlier, following a report against his 77-year-old wife for domestic abuse.

The previous day, March 27, the 77-year-old was summoned for trial on charges of assaulting her 82-year-old husband, who suffers from mobility issues. The accused was found not guilty due to reasonable doubt.

The complaint was made by their son, while the elderly woman was also charged with violating a restraining order, which had been imposed due to a similar incident earlier.

The coroner who arrived at the scene where the 82-year-old was found dead could not clearly determine whether it was a criminal act. A forensic autopsy will follow to clarify the exact cause of death.

The first reports suggest that the 82-year-old had been lying on the ground for hours, at least since the afternoon, and his wife did not seek help. The police were notified at 7 pm by a neighbor.

As a result, the 77-year-old was arrested for neglecting to offer help and was brought to Thessaloniki’s court on Sunday morning (March 28).
