Security camera footage captured in detail the movements of the perpetrators from the moment they left the victim’s apartment to the apartment of one of the two Ukrainian perpetrators in Kypseli.

The footage documents of how the two Ukrainian men, aged 29 and 38, carried out the murder of a 31-year-old Polish man in his home in Agios Panteleimonas, with robbery as the motive, as well as the wounding of his roommate.

Authorities were able to track the suspects through multiple cameras, following them from the crime scene to an apartment on Thiras Street in Kypseli, where they brought the stolen items from the victim’s home.

Watch the video evidence:

Inside the victim’s apartment there had been a black bicycle with white wheels, as well as various construction tools and small electrical devices belonging to him. These, along with money stored in his safe -proceeds from drug sales- were found to have been taken by the perpetrators.

After the 29-year-old’s fingerprints were identified, a police task force from the Athens Security Directorate began searching for him in the city center.

On October 23, he was spotted riding a red bicycle along Acharnon Street and placed under discreet surveillance. He was seen entering a building on Thiras Street using keys and taking the bicycle inside. It was confirmed that he entered an elevated ground-floor apartment. Over the following days, the building’s entrance was kept under surveillance, and officers verified that he resided there.

Investigators then collected CCTV footage from nearby businesses dating back to October 10 — the day of the murder. They found and seized a recording from a camera covering the entrance of the Thiras Street building.

A combined analysis of the footage identified the two suspects:

  • The 29-year-old, dressed in black, pulling a suitcase with a red bag on top and carrying a backpack.
  • The 38-year-old, wearing a yellow hoodie, black pants, white Nike shoes with a black logo, riding the victim’s black bicycle with white rims, carrying a backpack, and wearing a white baseball cap.

The two men left together from the building on 8 Chali Street, where the murder took place. They initially went in opposite directions and later met again outside the building on Thiras Street.

They entered together using keys held by the first suspect. The second man then changed clothes, left the building, and rode off again on the victim’s black bicycle.

In the morning of November 6, police placed the Thiras Street entrance under renewed surveillance. When the 29-year-old exited the building, he was immediately detained. A search of his apartment followed, during which police found and seized the clothing, accessories, suitcases, and bags seen in the video footage, as well as numerous construction tools and electrical devices confirmed to have been stolen from the victim’s home.

When questioned orally, the suspect admitted his involvement and identified the 38-year-old as his accomplice. He then led police to Politechnikou Street in Athens, pointing out his accomplice’s residence.

Later that day, officers discreetly monitored the entrance of the Politechnikou Street building. In the afternoon, they spotted the second suspect approaching on foot, but upon noticing police near his home, he walked past the entrance and tried to flee. Officers identified themselves and moved to detain him; after an initial attempt to escape, he was subdued immediately.

Police are now searching for a third accomplice.
