The Greek rock and blues scene has lost one of its notable figures, as musician Giorgos Lagogiannis passed away at the age of just 47.

The death of Giorgos Lagogiannis, a highly respected musician, has caused deep sadness in Greece’s rock and blues community. He passed away on Monday morning (July 13) at the age of 47.

The well-known musician had been hospitalized and died peacefully in his sleep after a short battle with cancer.

News of his passing sparked widespread grief among his friends, collaborators, and members of the Greek music scene.

Giorgos Lagogiannis was considered one of the most important keyboard players and organists of his generation, as well as one of the most sought-after session musicians in Greece.

Throughout his career, he collaborated with numerous bands, including Nostos, Why Not, The Bet, Blues Cargo, Golden Nugget, and Purple Overdose, mainly within the blues and rock genres. He also participated in numerous recording productions from 2000 until today.

He was also a member of “The Peppers Beatles Tribute Band,” a group dedicated to bringing the music of The Beatles back to audiences in Greece.

In a farewell message, the team behind the project wrote:

“Giorgos, our beloved ‘Lagos,’ thank you for everything. This band would never have existed without your love and knowledge of The Beatles — you taught us so much. Your talent, your unique ‘ear,’ and your passion in performing, both on keyboards and vocals, leave an irreplaceable void — not only in our small tribute band but in Athens’ music scene as a whole, as shown by the farewells from so many great musicians and bands today.

Above all, we thank you for your incredible sense of humor and your kindness.

We say goodbye to our beloved Giorgos Lagogiannis in Ritsona, on Thursday, July 16, at 13:30.”
