Former SYRIZA MP and former minister Alekos Flambouraris has died at the age of 87.

Alekos Flambouraris, former SYRIZA MP and former Minister of State, died today at the age of 87.

He was born in Athens in 1938. He graduated from the University of Graz in Austria and from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and worked as a civil engineer. In his youth he joined the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) and the Lambrakis Youth, and was arrested for his anti-dictatorship activity.

After the restoration of democracy, he joined KKE Interior, then Synaspismos and later SYRIZA, where he served as a member of the Central Committee.

He was Minister of State for the Coordination of Government Work in both of Alexis Tsipras’s governments, and in September 2015 he was elected MP for Athens A. After the cabinet reshuffle on 5 November 2016, he remained in the ministry, taking on responsibilities related to citizens’ everyday problems and major development initiatives.

EUROKINISSI

In the 2019 parliamentary elections he was placed fourth on SYRIZA’s nationwide ballot and was re-elected. In the parliamentary elections of May and June 2023 he was placed in the honorary last position on the nationwide ballot.
