“The friendship between Greece and the US is strong, historic, and based on a shared democratic and intellectual heritage,” emphasized US President Donald Trump.

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, described Greek-American relations as “stronger than ever” during the ceremony where the new Greek Ambassador to the US, Antonis Alexandridis, presented his credentials.

In his official address, the American president stated that the friendship between Greece and the US is “strong, historical, and based on a common democratic and spiritual heritage,” emphasizing that he looks forward to further strengthening the bilateral relations.

Mr. Trump referred to Greece’s progress toward achieving NATO’s defense spending goal of 5% of GDP, noting that Athens demonstrates “real leadership” within the Alliance. “Peace is secured through strength,” he emphasized.

In the energy sector, he made special mention of the export of American liquefied natural gas and the so-called Vertical Corridor, estimating that related infrastructure projects would enhance the energy security of the broader region.

At the same time, he expressed his appreciation for the courage Greece showed in abstaining during the adoption of the International Maritime Organization’s framework for net-zero emissions, stating that the regulation would burden consumers, businesses, and global trade.

Finally, he referred to the prospects of strengthening cooperation in the shipbuilding industry, including discussions on the construction of American frigates in Greece, as well as expanding bilateral relations in the areas of trade and investment.
