Changes to Metro services from Monday – Which stations will close earlier

Modifications to the operation of Metro Line 2 will come into effect from Monday, February 23. The stations that will close earlier.

The project to replace rails and install a 5G network on the Athens Metro is moving into its fourth phase, with works continuing from Monday, February 23, on the “Syngrou Fix – Syntagma” section, where temporary traffic arrangements will be implemented during nighttime hours.
It is noted that on Sunday, February 22, services on Line 2 will operate normally throughout the day at all stations, without the nighttime suspension.
Specifically, according to an announcement by STASY, from Monday 23/02 the stations Syntagma (Line 2), Acropolis and Syngrou Fix will close at 21:40 from Sunday to Thursday, two and a half hours earlier than the scheduled end of service.
Syntagma station will remain open for Line 3 Δημοτικό Θέατρο – Δουκίσσης Πλακεντίας – Airport.
Train services on Line 2 during the hours of the works will operate between the stations “Anthoupoli – Panepistimio” and “Neos Kosmos – Elliniko”.
Changes to Metro services
In detail, the last trains, before the stations close, will depart:
From Anthoupoli to Elliniko at 21:25 (from Panepistimio at 21:37, from Syntagma at 21:40, from Acropolis at 21:41, from Syngrou-Fix at 21:43).
From Elliniko to Anthoupoli at 21:25 (from Agios Dimitrios at 21:33, from Neos Kosmos at 21:37, from Syngrou-Fix at 21:39, from Acropolis at 21:41, from Syntagma at 21:43).
To serve passengers on the Panepistimio – Agios Ioannis section, OASA is introducing (from Sunday to Thursday, from 21:40 until the end of Metro service) the temporary bus Line X15 “Panepistimio – Agios Ioannis”.
The line will make the following stops:
In the direction Metro St. Panepistimio – Metro St. Agios Ioannis:
- “PANEPISTIMIO” (existing stop, on Sina Street),
- “SYNTAGMA STOP” (new temporary stop, on Vasilissis Amalias Avenue at Syntagma Square, between Vasileos Georgiou I and Othonos streets),
- “ACROPOLIS STOP” (existing stop on Vasilissis Amalias Avenue),
- “FIX STOP” (new temporary stop, on Kallirrois Street at the Tram stop),
- “NEOS KOSMOS STOP” (new temporary stop, on Ambrosiou Frantzi Street),
- “AGIOS IOANNIS STOP” (existing stop, on Kasomouli Street).
In the direction Metro St. Agios Ioannis – Metro St. Panepistimio:
- “AGIOS IOANNIS STOP” (existing stop, on Kasomouli Street), “NEOS KOSMOS STOP” (new temporary stop, on Ambrosiou Frantzi Street),
- “FIX STOP” (existing stop, on Syngrou Avenue), “ACROPOLIS STOP” (existing stop, on Syngrou Avenue), “
- SYNTAGMA STOP” (existing stop, on Vasilissis Amalias Avenue),
- “PANEPISTIMIO TERMINAL – ALIGHTING ONLY” (new temporary stop for passenger drop-off only, on Panepistimiou Street, between Sina and Korai streets).
“We understand the disruption that these traffic arrangements cause our passengers; however, they are deemed necessary for the execution of these important works, which will contribute to improving daily travel,” STASY notes in its announcement.
