The return of travellers from the Clean Monday long weekend is reaching its peak, with sections of the national highways leading to Attica already “in the red.”
The most significant problems are being recorded at the entrances to the Attica basin, with delays increasing minute by minute.
Difficult entry from the Athens–Corinth highway
On the Athens–Corinth National Road, the wave of returning travellers is already beginning to slow down from the Isthmus, with traffic moving with major delays at key points such as Agioi Theodoroi, Kineta, Megara and Nea Peramos.
However, the most serious problem is being observed at the Elefsina entrance. There, drivers are faced with heavy congestion stretching for 3–4 kilometres, starting from the Workers’ Housing area and reaching as far as Aspropyrgos Beach.
Significant delays on the Athens–Lamia highway and Attiki Odos
A similar picture is seen on the PATHE (Athens–Lamia) highway. Problems begin at Oinofyta and continue to Afidnes, with the heaviest congestion recorded at the toll station.
The ordeal continues as vehicles approach the urban area, with significant delays at Kryoneri, Kifisia and up to the Attiki Odos junction towards Metamorfosi.
Traffic is also heavy on Attiki Odos, where major congestion is being recorded in the direction of Elefsina. Delays start from the “El. Venizelos” airport area and continue until just before Pallini, making travel through the eastern suburbs particularly time-consuming.
