Metro: Traffic changes on Line 2 due to works – Which stations will close earlier

Temporary traffic regulations during nighttime hours will come into effect on Metro Line 2, starting tomorrow, Sunday, March 15, on the “Omonia – Acropolis” section, due to works for the rail replacement project and the installation of a 5G network in the Athens Metro.

Specifically, according to an announcement by STASY, from tomorrow Sunday (14/3) until Monday (23/3), the stations “Omonia” (Line 2), “Panepistimio”, “Syntagma” (Line 2) and “Acropolis” will close at 21:40 from Sunday to Thursday, two and a half hours earlier than the scheduled end of service.

The “Syntagma” station will remain open for Line 3 “Dimotiko Theatro – Doukissis Plakentias – Airport”, and “Omonia” station for Line 1 “Kifisia – Piraeus”.

Train services on Line 2 during the hours of the works will operate between the stations “Anthoupoli – Metaxourgeio” and “Elliniko – Syngrou Fix.”

Last trains before station closures

• From Anthoupoli to Elliniko at 21:25
  (from Omonia at 21:36, Panepistimio at 21:38, Syntagma at 21:40, Acropolis at 21:41).
• From Elliniko to Anthoupoli at 21:20
  (from Acropolis at 21:36, Syntagma at 21:38, Panepistimio at 21:39, Omonia at 21:41).

Temporary bus line

To serve passengers on the Metaxourgeio – Syngrou Fix section, OASA will operate the temporary bus line X16 “SYNGROU FIX METRO ST. – METAXOURGEIO METRO ST.” (from Sunday to Thursday, from 21:40 until the end of Metro service).

• Stops in the direction Metaxourgeio – Syngrou Fix:
• “METAXOURGEIO” (temporary stop on Karaiskaki Square between Deligianni and Achilleos streets)
• “OMONIA” (existing stop)
• “KLAUTHMONOS SQUARE” (existing stop)
• “SYNTAGMA” (existing stop)
• “ACROPOLIS” (temporary stop on Vasilissis Amalias Avenue)
• “FIX” (temporary stop used by line X15, on Kallirrois Street near the TRAM station)

“We understand the inconvenience these traffic arrangements cause to our passengers; however, they are necessary for the implementation of these important projects, which will contribute to improving daily transportation”, STASY noted in its announcement.
