Metro: The modifications on Line 2 come into force today – Which stations will close earlier

Temporary traffic arrangements during nighttime hours will come into effect on Metro Line 2 from today, Sunday 15 March, on the section “Omonia–Acropolis”, due to works for the project of rail replacement and installation of a 5G network in the Athens Metro.

Specifically, according to an update from STASY, from today Sunday (14/3) until Monday (23/3), the stations “Omonia” (Line 2), “Panepistimio”, “Syntagma” (Line 2) and “Acropolis”, from Sunday to Thursday, will close at 21:40, two and a half hours earlier than the scheduled end of service.

The “Syntagma” station will remain open for Line 3 “Dimotiko Theatro – Doukissis Plakentias – Airport” and the “Omonia” station for Line 1 “Kifisia – Piraeus”.

Train movement on Line 2 during the hours of the works will take place between the stations “Anthoupoli – Metaxourgio” and “Elliniko – Syngrou Fix”.

In detail, the last trains, before the closing of the stations, will depart:

From Anthoupoli to Elliniko at 21:25 (from Omonia at 21:36, from Panepistimio at 21:38, from Syntagma at 21:40, from Acropolis at 21:41).

From Elliniko to Anthoupoli at 21:20 (from Acropolis at 21:36, from Syntagma at 21:38, from Panepistimio at 21:39, from Omonia at 21:41).

For the service of the passenger public on the section Metaxourgio – Syngrou Fix, OASA is operating (for the days Sunday to Thursday, from 21:40 until the end of Metro service) the temporary bus Line X16 “SYNGROU FIX METRO STATION – METAXOURGIO METRO STATION”. The line will make the following stops:

In the direction Metro Station Syngrou Fix – Metro Station Metaxourgio:

“SYNGROU FIX” (existing stop), “ACROPOLIS” (existing stop), “SYNTAGMA” (existing stop), “PANEPISTIMIO” (new temporary stop on Panepistimiou Street between Sina and Korai streets), “OMONIA” (existing stop), “METAXOURGIO” (temporary stop at Karaiskaki Square between Deligianni and Achilleos streets).

In the direction Metro Station Metaxourgio – Metro Station Syngrou Fix:

“METAXOURGIO” (temporary stop at Karaiskaki Square between Deligianni and Achilleos streets), “OMONIA” (existing stop), “KLAFTHMONOS SQUARE” (existing stop), “SYNTAGMA” (existing stop), “ACROPOLIS” (temporary stop on Vasilissis Amalias Street), “FIX” (temporary stop operating for line X15 on Kallirrois Street at the level of the TRAM station).

“We understand the disruption that the traffic arrangements cause to our passengers; however, they are considered necessary for the execution of these important works, which will contribute to improving daily commuting,” it is emphasized in the STASY update.
