Investigations are underway by the Homicide Department of the Northern Greece Organized Crime Division into the death of a 59-year-old Greek woman, with all indications pointing to a criminal act.
At around 4 p.m., a friend of the unfortunate woman called the police, stating that she had been trying to contact her since the previous day and was concerned. The 59-year-old lived permanently in Germany and had come to Greece in recent days for her son’s memorial service. She was staying at her privately owned apartment in Evosmos, where she was found. She also had relatives and friends in Thessaloniki.
Police officers arrived at her residence and, upon entering, found her dead in her room. According to reports, she was naked from the waist up and had a belt around her neck, with visible signs of strangulation.
The forensic examiner who arrived at the scene concluded that this was a criminal act. The space did not show signs of being ransacked, while the door was closed but unlocked and not forced, leading authorities to believe that the victim may have known her killer and let them inside.
Police investigations are in full progress. A forensic team is at the scene collecting fingerprints and genetic material, while efforts are being made to locate any relevant footage from security cameras in the area, which could help authorities identify the perpetrator.
