African dust surge – Temperatures set to hit 25°C

African dust is returning from today, Easter Tuesday (April 14), and will remain for several days, with temperatures ranging at high levels for the season.
According to the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS), thin cloud cover will prevail across the country today, becoming denser in places. Local rain or showers will mainly occur from midday onwards in the western regions. In the afternoon, the phenomena will spread to central and southern mainland areas and by evening to western and central Macedonia.

Visibility in the morning hours will be locally limited in central and northern mainland areas.

The transport of African dust is favored, mainly in the west and south.
Winds will blow from the east-southeast, at 4 to 6 Beaufort in the west, locally up to 7 and in the Ionian islands up to 8 Beaufort, while in the east they will be 3 to 5 and in the southern Aegean up to 6 Beaufort.

Temperatures will not change significantly and will reach 18 to 19°C in the north, locally 20°C, 24 to 25°C in the west, and 21 to 22°C in the rest of the country, locally 23°C in Crete.

MACEDONIA, THRACE

Weather: Partly cloudy at times, locally denser, with local rain or showers in the evening in western and central Macedonia and possibly briefly during midday–afternoon in mountainous areas.
Winds: Easterly 3 to 4 Beaufort, locally up to 5 in the east.
Temperature: From 5 to 18–19°C, locally up to 20°C in central Macedonia.

IONIAN ISLANDS, EPIRUS, WESTERN CENTRAL GREECE, WESTERN PELOPONNESE

Weather: Periods of increased cloud cover with local rain or showers, mainly from midday onwards.
Winds: East-southeasterly 4 to 6 Beaufort, locally 7 and up to 8 Beaufort in the Ionian islands.
Temperature: From 11 to 24°C and locally up to 25°C inland. In inland Epirus, 2–3°C lower.

THESSALY, EASTERN CENTRAL GREECE, EUBOEA, EASTERN PELOPONNESE

Weather: Intermittent cloud cover, occasionally denser. Local rain or showers will occur from the afternoon in eastern Peloponnese and central Greece, spreading to other areas by evening.
Winds: Easterly 3 to 5 Beaufort, locally up to 6 in southern coastal areas.
Temperature: From 8 to 20–21°C.

CYCLADES, CRETE

Weather: Intermittent cloud cover, occasionally denser, with a chance of local rain or showers during midday–afternoon.
Winds: East-southeasterly 4 to 6 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 13 to 21°C and up to 23°C in Crete.

EASTERN AEGEAN ISLANDS – DODECANESE

Weather: Intermittent cloud cover, occasionally denser.
Winds: East-southeasterly 4 to 5 Beaufort, temporarily up to 6 in southern areas.
Temperature: From 12 to 21°C, 2–3°C lower in the north.

ATTICA

Weather: Intermittent cloud cover, occasionally denser, with a chance of light local rain in the evening.
Winds: Easterly 3 to 4 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 10 to 21°C.

THESSALONIKI

Weather: Intermittent cloud cover, occasionally denser, with local rain during the night.
Winds: East-southeasterly 3 to 4 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 9 to 19°C.

FORECAST FOR WEDNESDAY 15-04-2026

Clouds will be temporarily denser across the country, with local rain in the west, central and northern areas.
Visibility in western mainland areas will be locally limited in the morning and evening.
Conditions favor the transport of African dust, mainly in the west and south.
Winds will blow east-southeasterly 4 to 6 Beaufort in the west and locally 7 to 8 in the southern Ionian. In the east, they will be east-northeasterly 3 to 5 Beaufort and locally up to 6 in the Aegean.
Temperatures will not change significantly, reaching 19–20°C in the north (locally 21°C), 24–25°C in the west, and 21–23°C elsewhere, locally 24°C in Crete.

In Thrace and the eastern Aegean islands, periods of increased cloud cover. In the rest of the country, increased cloudiness with local rain.
Conditions favor the transport of African dust mainly in southern areas.
Winds will blow north-northeasterly 4 to 6 Beaufort and in the Aegean 7, locally up to 8 Beaufort.
Temperatures will not change significantly.

FORECAST FOR FRIDAY 17-04-2026

In the west and north, partly cloudy at times denser with local rain in the northwest. Elsewhere, increased cloud cover with local rain and possibly thunderstorms in southern island areas.
Conditions favor the transport of African dust in the southeast.
Winds will blow north-northeasterly 3 to 6 Beaufort and locally 7 to 8 in the east.
Temperatures will drop slightly.

FORECAST FOR SATURDAY 18-04-2026

In the Dodecanese and Crete, a few clouds, locally increased with local rain. In the rest of the country, generally fair weather with temporary cloudiness in northern mainland areas during midday, when local rain is possible.
Winds will blow from northern directions 3 to 5 Beaufort and in the east 6 to 7, temporarily up to 8 Beaufort.
Temperatures will not change significantly.
