Panic ensued this morning at a bar on Thiseos Avenue in Kallithea, caused by a 58-year-old man. The perpetrator, who was in a state of intoxication, had gone to the specific bar where he was a regular; however, because he frequently caused problems, he was not allowed to stay. He had also harassed the 43-year-old bartender, who is the partner of the owner.
After being removed from the premises, he went to his car, grabbed an UZI, and returned to the entrance. He opened fire, resulting in a through-and-through wound to the back and neck of the 43-year-old woman.
Immediately after, he stepped outside and began firing toward the establishment as well. Panic gripped the area. The perpetrator got into his car and attempted to escape, but police officers who had been called to the scene followed him, immobilized him shortly after, and arrested him. The weapon used in the attack was found and seized from under the driver’s seat.
The victim was initially transported by private means to a nearby private hospital in Neo Faliro for first aid and was subsequently transferred to “Evangelismos” Hospital, where she is being treated and is out of danger.
The perpetrator, who upon initial background checks did not appear to be known to the authorities—though the investigation is ongoing—was taken to the Security Department for questioning. Statements are currently being taken from all eyewitnesses and the bar’s patrons.
