A new police operation by the Financial Crimes Division of the Directorate for Combating Organized Crime (DAOE) has been underway since the early morning hours today as part of the wider “THERISMOS” operation.
The aim of the operation is to dismantle a criminal organization whose members are allegedly involved in a fraud scheme against the financial interests of both the European Union and the Greek State through OPEKEPE subsidy programs, as well as in making false declarations.
So far, 13 individuals have been arrested in the regions of Kozani and Agrinio, including a manager and an employee of a Certification and Submission Center (KYD). In total, 39 people have been implicated in the case, the majority of whom are farmers.
The illegal financial gain is estimated to exceed €2.5 million, while tax violations have also been identified.
Upon completion of the investigation, an official statement from the Hellenic Police (EL.AS.) is expected.
