Aigio: Prosecution for Murder Against Italian Man

A prosecution for murder has been filed against the 65-year-old Italian for the double murder of his 54-year-old partner and her 26-year-old son in Loggos, Aigio, on Tuesday (10/6).

As stated by the Hellenic Police spokesperson, Konstantia Dimoglidou, speaking on the “Live You” show on SKAI on Wednesday afternoon, the 65-year-old is now charged with murder.

“Because he does not convince the police officers who examined him and there are several contradictions in the testimony he has given them, as well as other evidence collected by colleagues that also justify the charge of murder against him. That is exactly why the case file accompanying this man to the prosecutor today includes the murder charge,” she noted.

According to the Hellenic Police announcement, “a foreign man was arrested in Aigio by officers of the Aigialeia Crime Investigation and Detection Department, accused of the premeditated double murder of his 54-year-old partner and her 26-year-old son, as well as violation of the arms law.”

Had Taken an “Alcohol Bath”

Police officers who arrived first at the crime scene initially thought the 65-year-old was drunk, but they soon realized that the smell came from the large amount of alcohol on his body and hands, which they believe he used to eliminate incriminating evidence.

However, forensic analysis found genetic material under the 54-year-old’s nails, which is being examined to determine if it belongs to him, as the victim appears to have struggled with the perpetrator.

Additionally, a wet and recently washed piece of the suspect’s underwear with stains resembling blood was found and sent to the forensic laboratories, along with the flobert gun and knife found in the flowerpot.

Contradictions of the 65-Year-Old

The suspect reportedly contradicted himself several times regarding the times of medical appointments and his whereabouts at the time of the crime, claiming he was asleep and did not notice anything, and that he delayed discovering them dead because, as he said, he did not want to disturb them.

The 26-year-old, found dead in bed, had injuries from flobert gunshots to the head followed by knife wounds, and his mother had knife wounds as well as numerous defensive injuries, indicating she fought with the perpetrator.

Police believe the Italian suspect first shot the young man with the flobert without killing him and then began stabbing him.

At that point, it is possible that the mother, hearing some of the victim’s cries, rushed to the room to help her son and came into a struggle with her partner, who killed her.

The police were called yesterday at 12 noon by a neighbor who was informed by the 65-year-old Italian that he had found his Greek partner and her son dead. The forensic examiner who went to the scene determined, however, that they had died early yesterday, around 6-7 a.m.

Security officers are awaiting results from the police forensic laboratories regarding the findings in the house. According to Ms. Dimoglidou, the examination of the clothing with blood traces, as well as other evidence (knife, fingerprints, DNA, victims’ clothes), will be completed within the day.
