The Internal Affairs Service of the Security Forces dismantled a criminal organization whose members were active in drug trafficking in areas of Athens.

To dismantle the organization, a coordinated police operation was conducted on the morning of Wednesday, June 10, in areas of Attica, during which a total of six members were arrested, including a 28-year-old police officer. An additional 24 individuals are being charged in connection with the case, including a Special Guard.

The head of the organization was a former footballer who had played for major teams, worked in nightclubs, and trafficked drugs obtained from Roma. A police officer from the Aliens Department was also involved in trafficking, and a Special Guard was arrested as a user. The Special Guard and his brother, an officer, are accused of fraud and also received money from fans at the Euroleague Final Four to get them into the stadium.

As part of the investigation of a complaint, and following an extensive inquiry using special investigative techniques and digital tools, the existence of the criminal organization was revealed. Its members, with a specific structure and continuous activity, at least since January 2026, were engaged in the trafficking of narcotic substances (mainly cocaine) for the purpose of illegal financial gain.

The 32-year-old former footballer, employed at nightclubs in Attica, was the leader and trafficked drug quantities during his work, taking advantage of his popularity as a former professional athlete.

Additionally, a 29-year-old, a 50-year-old woman, and a 50-year-old man, who are relatives, supplied him with the quantities he trafficked. An active role was also played by the 28-year-old partner of the 32-year-old, who participated in receiving, storing, and preparing the drugs.

The arrested police officer from the Aliens Department had a supporting role as a member of the organization, assisting its operations and distributing small quantities of drugs to acquaintances due to his personal contacts with the 32-year-old.

The Codes in their communications

To avoid detection, the members of the organization used enhanced counter-surveillance measures, such as communicating through online applications and using code words for drugs (“line(s)”, “lyrics”, “twenty-five”, “magnesium”, “ready for war?”, “we will bring down castles, Priamos will fall”). Drugs were transported using their own vehicles, rented cars, or taxis, and distributed within establishments in areas with limited access or visibility.

Participation of special guard

The 28-year-old Special Guard serving at the Kifisia Police Station and a relative, an officer in the Southern Suburbs Police Department, are accused of four other criminal acts: one case of joint fraud, two cases of breach of official secrecy, and one case of bribery related to activities at the Final Four.

The Special Guard is also charged with three cases of supplying drugs for personal use.

Seizures

During searches of residences and vehicles, authorities seized a total of 5.8 grams of cocaine, 6.1 grams of cannabis, €6,230, a precision electronic scale, drug paraphernalia, mobile phones, and a motorcycle. The arrested individuals were brought before the competent prosecutorial authority.
