A 34-year-old man and four minors extorted a 13-year-old student in Volos, forcing him to take €370,000 from his home.
According to police sources, the case began when the 13-year-old, the son of a businessman, had some fireworks in his possession to use for his birthday. A friend of his, also a minor, persuaded him to give him some of them, and that is where it all started.
As ERT reports, the friend told him that he had given the fireworks to a 34-year-old man, who was later arrested by the police, and that by threatening that the 13-year-old and his parents would be accused, they intimidated him and, between May 2 and June 14, forced him to take €370,000 kept at his parents’ home.
They also told him that part of the money would be used for the alleged arrested man’s legal support.
On June 17, the 13-year-old’s parents realized that money was missing from their home.
The 13-year-old revealed to them the extortion he had been subjected to for a month and a half, as well as the individuals to whom he had handed over the money. The parents went to the police and reported the incident.
After investigations, Volos Security identified the 34-year-old and two minors aged 17 and 15, while two other minors have not yet been identified.
The 34-year-old was arrested in the early hours of Thursday (18/06) at his home, but during the search that followed, no money was found, as it appears he had hidden it elsewhere.
A case file has been formed against him for participation in a criminal organization and extortion, and he will be brought before the judicial authorities of Volos.
