Developments are unfolding in the disappearance of Stavroula Leventaki in Chania, after bloodstains were discovered inside the home of her tenant.

New evidence has emerged in the case of the disappearance of Stavroula Leventaki in Chania, following the discovery of bloodstains inside the residence of her tenant.

According to information presented by Star TV, officers from the Forensic Investigation Division found traces of blood in two different locations inside the tenant’s home.

Reports indicate that bloodstains discovered on a television set are believed to match the DNA of the 45-year-old missing woman.

Tenant arrested on drug charges

Leventaki’s tenant was arrested late Friday night under Greece’s summary arrest procedure.

The man, who is originally from North Macedonia, had been missing since Thursday morning (June 18) and had been sought by authorities. Investigators consider him a key figure in the disappearance of the 45-year-old woman.

According to initial reports, he was arrested after cannabis plants were found in his possession.

The man had been summoned to the Security Police for questioning for a third time last Wednesday. As pressure from the investigation mounted, he apparently disappeared on Thursday afternoon, just as authorities were expected to call him in again for further questioning.

His vehicle was later found approximately 2 to 3 kilometers from the house he rented from the missing woman in Agia, Chania. His mobile phone was discovered inside the car, switched on, in what investigators believe may have been a deliberate attempt to mislead authorities or suggest he was still in the area.

“My life is in danger,” tenant claimed before his arrest

Before his arrest, the tenant spoke by phone to the television program Fos sto Tounel (“Light in the Tunnel”), claiming that his life was at risk.

“My life is in danger. I am Stavroula Leventaki’s tenant,” the man said during the call.

When asked why and from whom he feared for his safety, he replied:

“From her brother and his friend. I’m hiding because yesterday, three hours after the police left my house, a man came to my home and threatened me with a gun, telling me not to say anything.”

Missing woman’s brother rejects allegations

Stavroula Leventaki’s brother firmly denied the accusations, saying the tenant was attempting to shift responsibility and divert the investigation.

“I think this is his last card before revealing what he has done. He wants to remove the blame from himself, and it suits him that people believed my sister and I didn’t get along,” he told Fos sto Tounel.

At the same time, he said he is convinced that the 43-year-old tenant is connected to his sister’s disappearance, adding that, in his view, the motive does not appear to be financial.
