With a “front” and cover provided by a tourist van company, members of a criminal network were distributing all kinds of drugs on the island of Mykonos.

A major police operation by the Narcotics Division of the Directorate for Combating Organized Crime has been underway since the early morning hours in Mykonos, aimed at dismantling a criminal organisation whose members were involved in the distribution of all types of narcotics.

They reportedly used as a “front” and cover a business operating tourist black vans transporting visitors, both Greek and foreign, and through these vans they also carried out the transport and distribution of drugs across the island.

So far, six people have been arrested: the Albanian leader and owner of the transfer company, his Romanian wife, two Greek drivers working for him, another Greek accomplice of the leader who was also a driver and is being examined as to whether he also owns his own van company, and a Greek woman in Athens, the wife of one of the arrested drivers, who travelled to Mykonos every weekend, likely transporting quantities of drugs.

Significant quantities of narcotics have been seized during house searches, including cocaine, ketamine, methamphetamine, ecstasy pills and unprocessed cannabis. In Mykonos, more than 2.5 kilograms of cocaine, 600 grams of pink cocaine, 170 grams of ketamine, 600 grams of crystalline methamphetamine, one kilogram of unprocessed cannabis and 700 ecstasy pills were seized, as shown in relevant photographs and video material. Additional significant quantities were also found and seized in Athens, at the home of the arrested woman.

According to information, the network had been under investigation for at least the past 2–3 months, during which its activity had been identified and it had been placed under close surveillance, while telephone communications have been intercepted and conversations recorded.

Upon completion of the operation and investigations, official announcements from the Hellenic Police are expected.
