Doctors monitoring hunger striker Aristotelis Hantzis, who has been on hunger strike for 140 days, are considering transferring him to the ICU, as his condition deteriorated in the early hours of the morning.

A rapid deterioration in health was recorded in the early hours of Thursday (25/06) in the condition of Aristotelis Hantzis, a member of the Occupied Refugee Community (Prosfygika) of Alexandras, who had been on a hunger strike for 140 days.
According to an emergency statement by the Community, “at 02:00 the health condition of Aristotelis Hantzis deteriorated rapidly, with loss of consciousness and severe respiratory disturbances.”
“His health condition is extremely critical, the next hours are crucial, and there is a possibility of intubation in the ICU,” the statement concludes.
Hunger strike of Hantzis and Doppagne ended
Members of the Occupied Refugee Community of Alexandras announced the end of the hunger strike of Aristotelis Hantzis as well as Suzon Doppagne, during a mobilisation held on Wednesday afternoon (24/06) in Syntagma Square.
“We consider the struggle victorious, as a wave of resistance from below that managed to form a broad and expanded front against necropolitics,” they noted.
It is recalled that Aristotelis Hantzis was on the 140th day of food abstention and had been hospitalised since Monday afternoon (22/06) in an extremely critical condition at the Second Internal Medicine Clinic of “G. Gennimatas” Hospital, having developed acute Wernicke’s encephalopathy with diplopia, ataxic gait, and severe electrolyte disturbances. The second hunger striker, Suzon Doppagne, whose condition is considered concerning, was on the 55th day of food abstention.
