Heraklion: 43-year-old woman seriously injured by self-inflicted gunshot at shooting range

A 43-year-old woman was seriously injured by a gunshot at a shooting range in Crete. She was taken to Venizelion Hospital in Heraklion.

Serious injury to a 43-year-old woman from a gunshot occurred at the Malevizi shooting range earlier on Saturday morning (27/06).
According to APE-MPE, under circumstances that are being investigated, the woman is believed to have suffered a serious injury to the neck and head area.
An ambulance from the National Emergency Aid Centre (EKAB) was immediately dispatched to the scene. The doctor and paramedics made prolonged efforts to save the woman, who was in cardiac arrest. Resuscitation was performed, and after she was intubated, she was transported to Venizelion Hospital in Heraklion. According to the hospital administrator, her condition upon arrival was assessed as very serious, with doctors making efforts to save her life.
Police officers also arrived at the shooting range to investigate the circumstances under which the incident took place.
How the incident occurred
According to police sources, the 43-year-old went to the shooting range in the morning for the first time and received a temporary permit.
The same sources report that the injury occurred in the presence of the range supervisor, while the possibility of a deliberate self-inflicted gunshot is also being examined.
According to EKAB rescuers, cited by the local outlet NeaKriti.gr, the woman, who originates from Thessaloniki, was given the weapon to take a shot.
Shortly before the incident, she is said to have told the range supervisor: “Move further back, you’re making me anxious.”
Latest reports indicate that her condition is extremely critical.
