Fire in Pallini near houses – Emergency alert from 112

Fire alert in Pallini has prompted the Fire Service to deploy strong forces, with a 112 emergency message issued advising residents to be on standby.

There is a large mobilisation of the Fire Service for a fire that broke out on Saturday afternoon (4/7) in Pallini, Attica.

According to the Fire Service, the fire is burning in a forest area near Spaton Avenue. In the area there are several houses and businesses, which are close to the fire, although they are not currently under immediate threat.

At the scene, 47 firefighters are operating, with 2 teams of foot patrol units, 20 vehicles, and two aircrafts. Assistance is also being provided by municipal water tankers.

The situation, however, has improved significantly in recent minutes, with the flames having been brought under control.

112 emergency message – alert for readiness

Shortly before 13:00, a message was sent to residents of the area via 112, calling on them to remain on alert.

It is noted that the risk of fire outbreak is very high for today, Saturday (4/7), according to the Fire Risk Forecast Map of the General Secretariat for Civil Protection.

Specifically, a very high fire risk (category 4) is forecast in:

  • Thessaloniki
  • Kilkis

At the same time, a high fire risk (category 3) is forecast in several regions of the island and mainland country.

Guidelines of the General Secretariat for Civil Protection

The General Secretariat for Civil Protection (civilprotection.gov.gr) of the Ministry of Climate Crisis & Civil Protection has informed the competent operational state services, as well as the Regions and Municipalities of the above areas, so that they remain on increased civil protection readiness in order to respond immediately to any fire incidents.

An appeal is made to citizens:

To be particularly careful and to avoid activities in rural areas that may cause a fire due to negligence, such as burning dry grass and branches or cleaning residues, the use of machinery that produces sparks such as circular saws and welding equipment, the use of outdoor barbecues, beekeeping smoking, throwing lit cigarettes, etc. It is also reminded that during the fire season the burning of fields is prohibited.

In case they notice a fire, they are requested to immediately notify the Fire Service at 199.
