Karpathos: Three mild earthquakes within one hour

Three mild earthquakes were recorded on Sunday morning (5/7) in the wider marine area of Karpathos, causing no problems and being only slightly felt by residents of Karpathos and Kasos.

The first tremor occurred at 10:13 and measured 3.4 on the Richter scale, with its epicenter located 23 kilometers south of Karpathos at a depth of 10 kilometers.

The second earthquake followed at 11:07, measuring 3.1 Richter, with the same epicenter and a depth of 16 kilometers.

A few minutes later, at 11:11, a third tremor measuring 3.8 Richter was recorded, with its epicenter 5 kilometers south-southwest (SSW) of Karpathos.

According to current assessments, the three tremors are part of the aftershock sequence of the 5.2 Richter earthquake that occurred on 2 July in the same area.
