The sudden passing of Maria Antonogiannaki at just 46 years old has caused profound sorrow in the journalistic community.
The unfortunate journalist was found dead on Sunday afternoon (5/7) inside her car in Heraklion, Crete. Initial assessments reported by local media attribute her death to cardiac arrest.
The 46-year-old was found unconscious in her vehicle, parked in the Agios Ioannis area. An ambulance from EKAB immediately arrived at the scene, but the doctor could only confirm her death.
The exact cause of her death is expected to be clarified through an autopsy, for which her body was transferred to the University General Hospital of Heraklion (PAGNI).
Her final moments
Security camera footage captured her last movements. She appears to have entered her apartment building, gone up to her home, and later returned to the parking area, where she got into her car.
Shortly afterward, she was found unconscious.
Heavy atmosphere at KRITI TV – Funeral at 16:00
The sudden death of Maria Antonogiannaki has deeply saddened the journalistic community in Crete and her colleagues at the KRITI TV Group, where she worked.
“Our Maria. Our person. A beloved colleague who left so suddenly, so unfairly, and so young,” the Group said in its farewell message.
Her colleagues note that the news of her passing shocked those who worked alongside her, leaving an irreplaceable void.
The funeral will take place today, Monday, at 16:00 at the Church of Agios Ioannis on Knossou Avenue. Her body will be at the church from 15:30.
