Attica: 52-year-old gynecologist arrested for child pornography

A 52-year-old gynecologist accused of possessing child sexual abuse material has been arrested by officers from the Cybercrime Division of the Hellenic Police.

According to available information, the US-based National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) alerted the Hellenic Police’s Cybercrime Division after receiving information indicating that a user had uploaded child sexual abuse material to an online cloud storage service.

A digital forensic analysis and online investigation followed, allowing police officers to trace the suspect, identify him and establish his place of residence.

During searches carried out on Thursday afternoon (October 8) at the suspect’s home and medical practice, police seized a mobile phone, a computer hard drive, a laptop, a tablet and a microSD memory card.

The investigation established that the suspect controlled the cloud storage account in question. Hundreds of photographs and videos containing child sexual abuse material were found stored on the devices, including material depicting children who appeared to be under the ages of 15 and 12.

Police sources noted that there has been no confirmation that the suspect produced any original child sexual abuse material himself.

The suspect was arrested under the procedure for offenses caught in the act and brought before a public prosecutor.

The seized digital evidence is currently being examined by the Hellenic Police’s Forensic Investigations Division.
