AADE: Hairdresser concealed nearly 500,000 euros – Sectors with the most tax evasion

The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) conducted approximately 48,000 audits, which led to the discovery of 180,000 tax violations. The “champions” of tax evasion have been identified.

Over 11,000 individuals and businesses were caught evading taxes in 2025, according to the AADE’s report.
The violation rate is about 30% of the audits, meaning roughly 3 out of 10 cases result in the detection of tax violations.
The figures, according to ERT, show that around 48,000 audits were carried out, leading to 180,000 violations, revealing the systemic nature of tax evasion. This scenario is also linked to increased fiscal revenues, contributing to the formation of a budget surplus.
The “Champions” of Tax Evasion
The sectors with the highest violation rates are particularly revealing:
- Vehicle workshops (cars and motorcycles): 61%, meaning nearly 6 out of 10 businesses show violations.
- Healthcare services: 54%
- Foodservice: 32.4%
Similar high percentages are recorded in other areas of the economy, highlighting the widespread nature of the problem.
Geographically, the highest violation rates are found in Western Greece with 39.9%, followed by:
- Peloponnese: 39.6%
- Thessaly: 38.2%
These specific regions record the highest tax evasion rates in the country, according to the audit data.
Noteworthy cases of significant tax evasion discovered by AADE include:
- A business executive who concealed 3.2 million euros in the years 2019-2020.
- An insurance agent who did not report 500,000 euros.
- A hairdresser who concealed 470,000 euros.
