New evidence has emerged in the investigation into the double murder in Longos, Aigio, where a 54-year-old woman and her son were brutally killed. The first findings from forensic laboratories are beginning to provide a clearer picture of the crime.

A 65-year-old Italian man, the woman’s partner, has been arrested in connection with the case.

According to local reports, toxicology tests did not confirm initial suspicions that the suspect had consumed alcohol before the killings.

At the same time, forensic examinations of the knife believed to have been used in the murders failed to uncover any usable fingerprints, complicating efforts to immediately identify the weapon’s user through physical evidence.

Investigators did, however, discover a fingerprint belonging to the 54-year-old victim, bearing traces of blood, on a laptop computer found inside the house.

Police Returned Suspect to Crime Scene

On Thursday afternoon (June 11), police escorted the 65-year-old suspect back to the house where the double murder took place.

Authorities carried out a second search of the crime scene in the presence of a prosecutor and the man accused of the killings, who has yet to confess.

A crime scene reconstruction could not be conducted because the suspect has not admitted involvement. Nevertheless, investigators are seeking as much evidence as possible to strengthen the case.

Mother Stabbed 27 Times, Son 7 Times

“I am innocent. I loved both my wife and her son very much,” the 65-year-old told reporters outside the prosecutor’s office. He repeated the phrase “I am innocent” three times.

The suspect continues to deny all allegations against him.

Disturbing Findings by the Medical Examiner

According to ANT1 television, the medical examiner found that the 54-year-old woman suffered 27 stab wounds, while her 26-year-old son was stabbed seven times. The young man had also sustained an injury caused by an air rifle.

Security camera footage showed no signs of forced entry into the house, no evidence of a third person entering the property, and no indication that money or valuables had been stolen.

The suspect claimed he had been sleeping in the living room on the night of the murders and heard nothing—not even a gunshot. He said he discovered the bodies of his partner and her son at around 11 a.m. on Tuesday, after which he contacted a friend who came to the house before police were notified.

Investigators found a recently washed pair of the suspect’s underwear hanging in the courtyard, along with a towel bearing stains believed to be blood. When asked why the items had not been placed in a laundry basket or washing machine, he failed to provide a convincing explanation, saying only that he had become dirty, taken a shower, washed the clothes and hung them out to dry.

According to Greece’s public broadcaster ERT, investigators believe a struggle took place before the killings, a theory supported by the condition of the room and the discovery of a broken piece of furniture.

The investigation suggests that the 26-year-old was killed first while he was asleep. He was allegedly shot at close range in the right temple with a Flobert-type air rifle before being stabbed in the chest.

His mother is believed to have heard the gunshot and rushed into the room to help her son. Police found her body on the floor at the opposite end of the bedroom, bearing wounds inflicted by a large knife that was later discovered beneath her body.

Next to a wardrobe, investigators found a Flobert-style air rifle containing a spent cartridge in the chamber.
