Dimitris Kokotas: Funeral to be held at public expense

Dimitris Kokotas, who died on Tuesday (25/8) at the age of 57, will be laid to rest in a funeral held at public expense.

The costs will be covered by the Municipality of Agia Varvara, according to an official announcement.

The Agia Varvara Municipal Council convened in an extraordinary session, amid deep emotion, on the afternoon of his death to approve a resolution marking his passing.

Among other measures, the council unanimously decided to observe a minute’s silence, while the municipality will cover the expenses of the funeral service, as provided for under the applicable legal framework.

It is recalled that the singer had been elected as a municipal councillor in Agia Varvara in the 2023 local elections.

At the same time, it was decided that the municipality’s flag would fly at half-mast until the day of his burial, while the Municipal Council, led by its president and the mayor, will attend the funeral service. The laying of a wreath was also approved.

As part of efforts to preserve the artist’s memory, it was decided that one of the municipality’s Conservatory annual scholarships will bear Dimitris Kokotas’ name. The Conservatory’s events hall, located in the “Mitros Soulimiotis” building, will also be named in his memory.

In addition, the council voted to postpone the cultural events scheduled for September until a later date, following the 40-day memorial service.
